Witchford returned to action in the cup after two months without a game. There previous game being in the cup and a close win on penalties. and so it was again.
Witchford were understandably rusty after such a long lay off and Shelford took the lead with a good strike on goal. Withford woke up and equalised through Davie Thompson on the break and took the lead in the same style with Davie taking the ball round the keeper for a tap in. Shelford were still dangerous and it took some last ditch defending and good goalkeeping to keep them out.
Witchford had the slope against them in the second half and with the pitch cutting up the impact of the long break took its toll. Shelford equalised with a backheel and proceeded to put constant pressure on the Witchford goal. However, another break away attach resulted in a goal for Ruaridh MacDonald. Witchford couldn't hold onto the lead when a defensive mix up gave Shelford the equaliser. Only outstanding goal keeping from Niall Ekwuru get Witchford in the game. Extra time saw Witchford denied a goal by a late offside flag and for the second game running it went to penalties.
Matthew Loades and Matt Ashman scored theirs and Niall continued his superb performance with three saves leaving Ruaridh with the last penalty and a good strike gave Witchford the win.
Perhaps a bit fortunate to win against a good Shelford team. However, Witchford were rewarded for their effort.
